Sunshine gig for singer-songwriter

Big gig: Liam Blake will be performing in Dubai until June

A singer-songwriter from Longton is enjoying six months of sunshine after being snapped up to perform at a top hotel in Dubai.

Liam Blake will become a familiar face to guests at the Crowne Plaza in the Middle Eastern city after he was signed up for a half-year residency at the five-star venue.

Liam, who jetted out this week, will perform his pop-folk inspired songs most nights of the week at the hotel’s Belgian Beer Cafe venue.

And he also plans to tour further afield around the area, famed for its luxury hotels and towering skyscrapers.

The 33-year-old said he was thrilled to land the unusual gig.

He said: “The Plaza came to know about me through an agency and really liked my album, You And Other Stories, which was released last year.

“They were looking to employ a resident singer-songwriter from England who writes songs in the tradition of classic singer songwriters like James Taylor, Cat Stevens and the Beatles and that’s exactly where I’m coming from as a writer.

“I’ll be playing mostly my own material from the album and songs I plan to record for future records, but no doubt I’ll chuck in some James Taylor! It’s really exciting being here. It’s also really nice to be out here representing UK music and it’s so great that they can’t get enough of it here.”

Liam, who has been penning songs since he was a pupil at Hutton Grammar School, plans to record his second album when he returns to the UK in June.
