Music fun: David Gordon aka One Man and His Beard performing in Leyland Library

A MUSICIAN shared his talent with people across Lancashire as part of a libraries tour.

David Gordon aka One Man and His Beard, visited ten libraries to mark national libraries day.

Armed with his guitar he visited libraries in Lostock Hall, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge and others, to sing a song for the occasion.

David has been singing and playing the guitar as One Man and His Beard for around 20 years, but only started singing about libraries a couple of years ago.

He said: “It was National Libraries Day on Saturday and in about December I wrote a National Libraries Day song.

“I was thinking what can I do and I came up with the idea to go to ten libraries in a day.”

David sang the song in the various libraries throughout the day and is keen to do something similar next year.

He said: “I started at 9.30am and finished at 6.30pm. It went so smoothly on the road I think I could do 20 libraries next year.

“It was great. In one library I had a group of pensioners loving it and in the next one I had a group of under 11s loving it.

“That’s what libraries are about, they are for all the different ages.

“I only arranged it two weeks before the event. I had the plan and I only had to change one time at one of the libraries.”

David, from Brindle, has written a song called We Need Libraries and is a supporter of libraries and the need to keep them. He said: “If it wasn’t for libraries I would never have been on the computer.”
