The fire service and paramedics rescued someone from a car after an accident in Fulwood.

Lancashire fire service say they were called to a two car collision on the junction between Sir Tom Finney Way and Watling Street Road, Fulwood, at 11.48am today.

The fire service helped paramedics administer first aid and used small tools to free the person - who has not been named - from one of the cars.

Another person who was in the other car managed to free themselves from the vehicle.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called to a road traffic collision involving two cars near the site of the old Royal Garrison pub.

“We sent two fire engines to the scene.

“When we got to the scene there was a person still inside each of the cars.

“We helped the paramedics give first aid and we also helped the paramedics move one person from one of the cars.

“The other person did not need any assistance to get out of the car.

“We were packing up and leaving the scene by 12.10pm.”

The accident caused tailbacks on both roads and Lancashire police say they were called to the scene at 11.30am.

A spokesman for the police said the people involved only sustained minor injuries.
