Youngsters across Lancashire have been celebrating World Book Day in style.
Children from schools and nurseries dressed up as their favourite characters to mark the event.
At Smart Kids in Fulwood, children from six months to age four, as well as staff, dressed up for the special day.
Manager Lynda Hayes said: “The children and staff celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite story characters and they shared familiar tales and rhymes.
“A love of reading is fostered from a young age at Smart Kids, and is supported through book areas featuring a wide range of factual, fictional and home made books for children to enjoy as a group or on their own.”
Mrs Hayes said costumes included Harry Potter, Smurfs and the Gruffalo, as well as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and Minnie Mouse. She said: “All the parents made a huge effort. It’s wonderful that they responded like that, it means so much to the children.
“It’s been lovely and a huge success. It just demonstrates that parents also value reading books from an early age.”
Among other schools and nurseries taking part in events was Elizabeth Saunders Nursery School in New Longton.
The children dressed as their favourite characters and enjoyed reading books with their friends.
