With Valentine’s just around the corner the nations thoughts turn to all things love and romance as jewellers see a boost in engagement ring sales and men countrywide search for the perfect way to pop the question.
What Women Want spoke to Debbie Jarratt, Diamond Expert for H Samuel, whose local store is located at Preston’s Fishergate Shopping Centre. Debbie has created a set of top tips to help men pick that perfect ring.
Why not flip this step by step guide to help you ladies successfully hint your way to the rock of your dreams?
Debbie’s first top tip to all those clueless guys out there is to: “Pay attention to her style. Is she a vintage queen or a modern girl? Is she simple and classic or does she like plenty of sparkle? Which metal colour does she wear most often? White or yellow?”
So girls, all you need to do for this one is drop a few obvious pointers about your style.
Comment on other woman’s style, from magazines or TV. Say when you like something and when you don’t, to give your man a clear vision of your tastes. Wear more jewellery in your favoured colour more often. These are the things men will be looking out for when searching for proposal ideas.
Another valuable tip from H Samuel’s Debbie to men is to: “Bring along a ring she usually wears so we can make sure you get the right size.”
This is an easy one. Leave your best fitting ring in a place your man will look when sneaking out to the jewellers.
Or, if you really want to make the hint, leave your jewellery in an obvious place your man simply can’t miss, on the dining table or kitchen work top.
This way he’s bound to get it right, avoiding any embarrassing scenarios on the day when your perfect ring just wont squeeze onto that finger no matter how hard you try! Last but not least Debbie says that: “70 per cent of customers choose the engagement ring together.” Men can, “Buy a holding ring, something simple and classic that you can exchange in store together when you’ve picked the perfect style.”
If this is something you want to do, speak to your man about this statistic and how lovely you think the notion of picking the ring together really is. A great deal of men would feel relieved by this idea.
All in all following this simple plan is a fool proof way to ensure no awkward moments when your man pops the question.
A final word from Debbie advises all those brave ladies out there planning on taking matters into their own hands, she says: “Getting married should be a joint decision so why shouldn’t the girl take the initiative? Sales of ‘mengagement’ rings are growing all the time at H. Samuel.”
H Samuel at Fishergate Shopping Centre have 50 per cent off hundreds of Valentine’s gifts and engagement rings until Thursday, February, 14.
