Published Date: 10 October 2008
Old World meets New World on Tuesday, October 14, when the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra perform at Preston Guild Hall.
Their fare for the evening consists of the Copland Suite from Billy the Kid; Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F; the Korngold Suite from Much Ado about Nothing; and Richard Strauss's Suite from Der Rosenkavalier.

Roberto Minczuk is conductor with pianist Stewart Goodyear to the fore.

Aaron Copland captures the empty rustling of the friendless desert to matchless perfection in his ballet score, while this quintessential New World flavour is duplicated in Gershwin's bluesy Piano Concerto, and echoed in Korngold's lavish incidental music to Shakespeare's play.

Korngold was an emigre from Old World Vienna, and from the society and style represented in Strauss's luscious suite from Der Rosenkavalier.
