The Lancaster Jazz Festival kicks off next and in its 10th year organisers are celebrating with an all-star line up, including Courtney Pine.
The programme not only features Courtney Pine, but some engaging gypsy dance music from the heart of Europe with Baksheesh's snaky soulful melodies and driving, stomping rhythms.

The guitar brilliance of Gary Boyle features, as does the genius of John Moore and Alan Pill as guitar duo Hotcha and Britain's best forties swing sextet Swing Commanders.

The Groove Crusaders promise a mix of popular jazz, blues and soul classics, and, for lovers of old-time jazz, legendary jazz pianist Ronnie French heads up The French Connection.

There's also an evening planned with jazz great Andy Schofield.

The festival is staged in venues across the city, including Sun Square and St John's Church.

And for those who want to take part in the festival themselves, The Stonewell Open Jam Sessions invite all musicians from all backgrounds and styles to come together.

Lancaster Jazz Festival runs from Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 24.

For details of all events, festival tickets, free events and listings see www.visitlancaster.co.uk or call the festival hotline on 01524 582803.

* See next week's WOW for an interview with Courtney Pine, one of the major jazz stars performing at the the festival this year
