Preston's newest music and arts pub, the newly refurbished Continental, officially opens its brand new performance space this weekend with offerings of jazz, latino rock, poetry and fun.
New hosts Ruth Heritage and Jeremy Rowlands plan a fabulous three days of events at the popular riverside pub at the bottom of South Meadow Lane overlooking the Ribble.
Local Latino guitar blues band Lava open proceedings tonight at 8pm followed by an all-welcome disco.
Saturday night sees Preston poet Mark Mace Smith aka Thud Dub, who won this year's Glastonbury Festival Poetry Slam and BBC Radio 4 North West Slam 2007 in the intimate surroundings of the Continental's snug.
The weekend closes with the Sunday Night Jazz Club, featuring a special set from Salford guitarist Mike Walker, just back from the Ditson Festival of Contemporary Music in Boston.
Also playing is Preston's resident sax virtuoso Harold Salisbury, along with his band Free Parking's rhythm section, bassist Gary Culshaw, and Jonathan Hartley on drums.
Try London band The Housewives at to Fylde Road's Mad Ferret this Saturday. The sophisticated popsters will be pepping up the return of Preston band The Uncomfortables' own live music night, Club Soixante Neuf, alongside Lancaster's How's My Pop? and The Uncomfortables themselves.
Since forming in December 2006 to make furious dancefloor indie, they've supported Young Knives, Bloc Party and Belle and Sebastian.
Club Soixante Neuf is at the Mad Ferret on Saturday September 27. Entry is free and doors open at 8pm.
Fans of Milburn should get to the Mad Ferret in Fylde Road on Friday for a rare intimate performance featuring two of the now-defunct Sheffield indie poppers.
Following Milburn's split earlier this year, guitarist Tom Rowley and drummer Joe Green have started a new band and this gig will mark only their third ever gig as The Backhanded Compliments before they head out on tour with Paul Weller's new favourite band, The Rifles, in November.
They will be supported by Wigan's Dirty Circus, Blackburn's The Torrents and Preston's own indie rockers The Carletons at the fifth club night organised by Preston band Underdogs at The English Gentleman's Drinking Club.
The night came about after Underdogs supported Milburn at their last Preston gig at 53 Degrees.
The English Gentleman's Drinking Club is at the Mad Ferret pub in Fylde Road, Preston, on Friday September 26. Entry is free and doors open at 8pm.
A performance by indie supergroup Trio Valore, led by former Ocean Colour Scene member Damon Minchella, has been moved to avoid going head to head with Madchester stars The Charlatans.
Trio Valore were to have played at The Mad Ferret pub, on Fylde Road, Preston, on October 17 – until The Charlatans announced a gig just over the road at 53 Degrees on the same date.
The new Trio date is two days later on Sunday October 19.
Indie soldiers The Rifles have announced a gig at Preston's 53 Degrees in October.
The band, who recently supported Jam and Style Council legend Paul Weller on tour, are set to release their new album in the New Year.
They arrive at 53 Degrees on October 29.
