The Sue Ryder Land Army Girls
The Sue Ryder Land Girls are getting tuned up for a special recital at a Fulwood home.
The troupe, which performs voluntarily for the Sue Ryder Care Trust, treated an audience at the offices of the Preston Reporter/Lancashire Evening Post to 1940s classics including Wish Me Luck When You Wave Me Goodbye, White Cliffs Of Dover and We'll Meet Again.
The set was a small preview ahead of the Land Girls show at Sherwood Lodge Care Home's Gala day on Sunday.
And the timing of the event could not be more significant, as it falls on the same week as the anniversary of the D-Day landings, June 6 1944.
Ann Beswick, the general manager of Sherwood Care Home, says the day was picked specifically to mark the occasion. Along with the Land Army Girls she has arranged a whole host of activities and participants for the event.
"The Land Army Girls have performed at the home before and went down very well with the residents so it was nice to be able to have them back."
And the troupe have a very special reason for being asked to perform, as for one resident they hold a very special significance.
"One of our ladies used to be one of the original Land Army.
"It will be lovely for her family to come down and participate and reminisce over her memories," Ann said.
The day is being held in aid of St Catherine's Hospice. The Gala Day will be held at the care home on Sherwood Way, Sherwood, on Sunday June 8 from 2pm.
