Dozens of youngsters got their skates on at the weekend to try out Preston's latest outdoor attraction.
Children and teenagers braved the wet and windy weather on Saturday for the opening of a temporary ice-rink in Harris Street in the city centre.

They were entertained by pop music from a live DJ as they skated round the 60ft-long synthetic rink.

Lauren Oyefeso, eight, of Lea, was one of the first children to have a go.

Her mum Debbie said: "The rink is a good idea. It's her first time ice-skating and she seemed to enjoy it."

Nicholas Watson of Preston Chamber of Trade said he was pleased so many skaters had turned out despite the poor weather.

Around £50,000 has been spent on the Christmas attraction, which is protected by round-the-clock security and CCTV to deter vandals, who damaged a previous rink two years ago.

A huge ferris wheel has also been erected outside the Harris Museum and Art Gallery to get shoppers in the festive spirit.
