The wait is over for hundreds of schoolchildren who entered the Lancashire Evening Post's Makin' Music competition.
Earlier this year, schools across the county were invited to enter their best musical performances to be in with a chance of winning some fantastic instruments.

LEP video journalists then created a virtual concert and invited readers to vote for their favourites. Now, the results can be revealed.

Highfield Priory, in Fulwood, scooped first place with their all-singing and line-dancing performance of Showdown Hoedown from children's Wild West musical The Lemonade Kid. The entry featured more than 50 children.

Pupils will soon be making use of a whole host of prizes including a podcasting kit, electric guitar, amplifier, a set of bongos, violin and three tambourines.

The four runners-up are St Oswald's Catholic Primary School in Longton, near Preston; Moorfield School, Deepdale, Preston; last year's winners Samlesbury CE Primary School, and Banks Methodist Primary School, near Southport.

They will each receive a selection of musical goodies including drum kits, acoustic guitars, digital radios, bongos, clackers and triangles.
The goods have been donated by CPC in Fulwood, and Lea-based A&C Hamilton.

The contest, now in its second year, has been deemed a great success.
Rachel Hewitt, Lancashire Evening Post promotions co-ordinator, said: "The standard was very, very high this year. Congratulations to Highfield Priory."

The Highfield Priory pupils will play at the LEP's annual Carols by Candlelight service at St John's Minster on December 19 at 7.30pm.
