OCEAN COLOUR SCENE in Morecambe, eh?

I doubt there were many people more chuffed than me when I heard they were dropping into the resort last Friday (August 1).

Playing The Dome ahead of a big gig supporting the Sex Pistols, the Brummie five-piece (right) injected fans with a dose of 90s nostalgia.
Arriving on stage to Morecambe's adopted anthem 'Bring Me Sunshine', the band went on to ably encapsulate the Brit Pop era with their quintessentially English sound.

Since emerging publicly in the early 90s, Ocean Colour Scene earned their biggest following when second album 'Moseley Shoals' was released in 1996.

With almost a cult following, the band (now in their 40s) can still hold their own amidst the hordes of young indie acts and on Friday night fans in the resort were treated to all the old favourites including 'Then Riverboat Song', 'Profit in Peace', 'The Circle' and OCS classic 'The Day We Caught The Train'.

At one point a charismatic Simon Fowler stood at the foot of the stage, hands on head, surveying the packed crowd as they belted out lyric after lyric.

Guitarist Steve Cradock later addressed fans: "You're a beautiful crowd. We're definitely coming back here."

A quick chat backstage with frontman Simon Fowler revealed the rest of the band were also keen to get back to the resort.

"I love this place." said Simon.

"Steve (Cradock) wanted to go on all the fairground rides – he's like a big kid.

"It was a top gig tonight - a good sound and a nice audience. We'll come back here."
