Chorizo – tasty food on tap

THEY say all good things come to those who wait – and that sums up my experience of Morecambe's new tapas, pizza and pasta restaurant.

Service at Chorizo could be a little quicker, but once the food arrives it is superb.

One recent Friday night
, my wife and I had a fantastic meal at the newly-opened eaterie on the corner of Skipton Street and Morecambe promenade.

We were seated inside in the main dining area – Chorizo also has an outdoor seating area where diners can enjoy a meal and a drink gazing across the Bay.

The decor inside Chorizo is fresh, modern and relaxing, and the immediate service was very friendly and accommodating. The bottle of red wine we asked for was not available, so we were offered a more expensive replacement instead for the same price. Nice touch.

We were also served a basket of bread and lovely olives, which we munched while waiting for our tapas main course.

Ordering that bottle of red wine turned out to be a smart move, as consuming it helped pass the time waiting for our food.

It arrived after about half-an-hour but was beautifully presented.
As the Chorizo menu quite rightly points out: "Tapas dishes are made for sharing so please choose as many from our selection as you wish."

Not needing to be told twice, we'd ordered seven dishes between us!

Chicken in white wine sauce, spiced meatballs, patatas bravas (spicy potatoes – an absolute must) red onion and pepper Quesadillas (gorgeous), cold roasted vegetable platter, moules meurniere (mussels cooked in garlic) and the restaurant's classic dish, chick peas with chorizo spicy sausage. Yum!

There was, understandably, no room for dessert.

The beauty of tapas is the ability to mix and match, and Chorizo's menu is diverse enough to cope for all tastes and appetites.

They also have a strong selection of pizza and pasta dishes, and a small range of sweets.

Once staff gain a little more experience in what is - after all - a still new venture, I am sure the serving times will improve.

Until then, that is my only gripe with what was an excellent evening.
