Top teachers honoured at awards ceremony

Exceptional teachers from Preston were among a host of education stars from schools across the North West who shone at the regional finals of the 2009 Teaching Awards.
Miss Laura Johnston from Lancaster Road Primary School in Morecambe won the regional DCSF award for enterprise while Mr Ben Ward from Penwortham Girls High School received a distinction in the RAF Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School category.

Mrs Jannice Crawford from Tarleton High School was highly commended after being shortlisted for the Ted Wragg Lifetime Achievement Award.
Each of the 12 winners received a Plato – the Teaching Awards symbol of excellence in education.

Distinctions and commendations were rewarded with an engraved glass award.

All were cheered on by a 250 - strong audience, including pupils, parents and colleagues at The Lowry, Salford Quays.

The ceremony was hosted by BBC TV presenter Wendy Gibson.
