Promising journalists of the future were rewarded for their hard work at UCLan's annual media awards.
Students at university paper Pluto and radio station Frequency attended the glamourous event at 53 Degrees.

First year student Luke Morley took the prize for sports writer of the year after impressing experienced sports journalists at a national newspaper.

Mark Hudson, sub editor at The Sun and former editor of Pluto, passed the entries on to the paper's sports desk.

He said: "They read the best sports in the world and they were really impressed."

Ricki Dewsbury scooped both the story of the year and reporter of the year awards for his investigation into plagiarism.

He said: "I'm delighted. I think I won because of my hard work and this award shows that hard work goes a long way."

Jonny Silcock won three awards, including music writer of the year, after only writing one music article.

Ed Walker, editor of Pluto, said: "Tonight is about honouring people who put time and effort into Pluto and Frequency, and giving something back to them."
