Residents living near Morecambe High School could be going back to school... to keep fit.
The Dallam Avenue centre is planning to create two fenced asphalted multi-use games areas, which would be used by the school and local community.
The first, for school use only, will measure 61.5m x 35m and surrounded by a 3.6m high welded mesh fe
nce.
The second would be half the size and be made available for community use.
The plan, which went before Lancashire County Council's development control committee, includes six 15m high floodlit columns with two lamps per column, which would be turned off by 9pm Monday to Saturdays and 8pm on Sundays.
The school multi-use games area (MUGA) would be used between 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturdays and 10am to 8pm on Sundays.
The community one would be available at all times to members of the public,with the entrance gained from the public footpath.
The nearest residential properties are on Turnberry Close, about 65m away.
Planners recommended approval of the scheme subject to conditions relating to time limits, working programme, construction hours, hours of operation, highways and landscaping.
Planning permission was granted in 2006 for the demolition of a technology block at the school, which has been replaced by new classrooms.
