Runshaw College student Sophie Robertshaw has been awarded the Horatio Waywell Memorial Prize.
The prize has been endowed in memory of the prize's namesake, who gave music to thousands of people in the Preston area and whose warmth and charisma stimulated enthusiasm and dedication in his many pupils, choirs and orchestras.

The prize is awarded annually to the candidate who obtains the highest marks in Grade Eight woodwind for the exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Sophie gained 139 marks out of a potential 150 in her recent bassoon exam.

Sophie has also been awarded a scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire for entry in September 2008, which pays for all her fees on this four year course.
