Lancashire's young sailors are riding on the crest of a wave after sweeping the board in the National Schools Sailing Championship.
For the second time in three years, the county won the blue ribbon Mount Haes Trophy event, where teams race identical Xenon Topper boats.

With two Lancashire crews in the final, Alison Grennan, 18, and Leah Beckford, 16, from Delph Sailing Club, became the first all-female crew to win this prestigious trophy.

Competing against 19 other counties, the 25-strong team from across Lancashire took third place overall, building on a victory in the Mount Haes event and in the Laser Radial class, where Jack Hopkins, also from Delph Club, took first place.

Other successes came in the Topper class, where Alasdair Humphreys from Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club, came fourth out of 88 and in the Laser class where clubmate Andrew Baines took fourth place.

Founded in 1966, Lancashire School Sailing Association "promotes water based activities for young people in Lancashire", including Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen.

It operates from its main sailing bases at Spade Mill, near Longridge, Preston, Fishmoor, near Blackburn, and Delph Sailing Club, near Bolton.
