Distraught friends of schoolgirl Jenna Darnley will be offered counselling on their return to school.
Longridge High School pupil Jenna, 15, was found hanged in the garden of her Grimsargh home in the early hours of Friday morning.

Pupils in Year 11 at the school were told of Jenna's death in a special assembly on Friday afternoon with many so upset that they were sent home.

Children at the school – many of whom are due to sit GCSE exams in the next few weeks – will be offered counselling today on the first day back after the Bank Holiday break.

Coun Vali Patel, Lancashire's schools chief, said: "It is very sad that this has happened.

"The authority is doing the best it can to support the schoolchildren at this difficult time.

"This tragic death will have a psychological impact on the children and we have experienced officers who will be on hand to offer support to any pupil that may need it."

Nigel Evans, MP for Ribble Valley, said: "This is incredibly tragic news.

Clearly our thoughts are with her family, her friends and the school.

"People will have been moved by this news and I just hope the knowledge that so many people are thinking of the family at this time will be of some comfort."

Tributes continued to pour in today for Jenna who was found hanged in the garden of her home in The Hills in Grimsargh at 3.30am on Friday.

Mum Angela, who saw her daughter just hours before she took her own life, said her family had been comforted by messages of support and flowers since the tragedy.

Tributes have been left at www.lep.co.uk plus Jenna's social networking sites, Facebook and Bebo, and an online memorial page.

She said: "With all the photographs people have put online and the beautiful things they said, it helps.

"It gave us some comfort and we have had people knocking on our door we do not even know.

"One lady we had never met came round and said she had been crying for two days.

"It is a comfort to know people are thinking about Jenna."

A post mortem is expected to take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.
