Come rain or shine, the streets of Preston will be ablaze with colour next week when the University of Central Lancashire holds its prestigious degree and award ceremonies.
More than 4,000 students will collect awards between Monday and Friday, watched by their family and friends.

The festivities are likely to start when top brass from the university, in traditional academic gowns, make their way from the Guild Hall
to the campus after the first ceremony.

These parades will be repeated throughout the week, as scholars receive their awards at eight different ceremonies. Each ceremony will be opened with a fanfare.

This year the university will confer honorary fellowships on six guests. Traditionally, these awards are made to distinguished people who have links with the region.

Among this year's recipients will be Lancashire Evening Post editor Simon Reynolds, who will collect an award from the Lancashire Business School on Tuesday, as will Preston-born and educated Chief Constable of Norfolk, Ian McPherson.

On Monday Dame Yve Buckland will be honoured by the health faculty.

The science and technology department will honour business magnets Thomas Croft and Yakub Patel on Wednesday, while Thursday will see the arts, humanities and social sciences reward renowned musician Martin Carthy.
