Young dancers have lots to cheer about
The Emeralds Cheerleading, Chorley
A Chorley cheerleading group has got an extra spring in its step after picking up nine trophies at a prestigious competition.
Emeralds Cheerleading Squad was only launched just over a year ago and already has thriving junior and senior sections.
They’ve just returned from taking part in the Empress Classic Cheer and Chant Competition in Blackpool, where they swept all up before them.
Coach Amber Winstanley, 20, said: “All the teams that entered normally compete nationally. We were allowed to compete as newcomers.
“I was so proud of them. Cheerleading is a very hard sport with the lifts and gymnastics.”
Emeralds was set up just over a year ago with around eight cheerleaders and has not looked back since.
The Junior team practises on Friday evenings in the gym at Albany High School in Chorley under the captaincy of Charlotte Hitchmough.
The Senior team practises at Fairview Youth and Community Centre in Adlington on Wednesday evenings.
They now have around 40 members aged between six and 30.
