Demolition plan: Members of Weeton Village Hall Committee who are fund-raising for the interior of a new village hall

Plans have been submitted to knock down and rebuild a village hall as part of a housing project.

The proposal to demolish the wooden hall on Mythop Road, Weeton have been now been put in to Fylde Council.

They form part of a scheme for 20 houses, including some affordable and social housing, in the area.

Coun John Singleton, who represents Weeton on Fylde Council and is on the Weeton Village Hall Committee, said a new hall was needed and would be provided by the scheme.

He added: “The current village hall dates back to the First World War. It has had some modification, but we decided it was time for us to have a new village hall.

“I think people would be quite happy with the residential area, and to bring new people into the village. It won’t have a detrimental effect, in fact it will be positive.”

The development is down to a partnership between the village hall committee, Jones Homes (Fylde) and Metacare.

Coun Singleton said Jones Homes would be carrying out the building work, but it was down to the committee to kit out the new hall.

It has been fund-raising for the last 18 months, and has managed to raise £8,000 for the new hall’s interior.

A Play Your Cards Right event is planned for next month, and a three-day beer festival in May.

Coun Singleton added: “It’s been very good. We’re only a small village, but it’s a thriving community.”

He said the plans were s to be discussed by Fylde’s Development Management Committee in April and work should start in August, subject to permission.
