Unsung heroes are wanted

Nominations are being sought for young unsung heroes living in part of Lancashire.

Every year the Mayor of Wyre presents the prestigious Sheraton Trophy to a rising star who has brought pride to the borough as a result of their achievements.

Now Wyre Council wants to hear about young people who have excelled in any walk of life, be it sport, the arts, community work, volunteering or achievement against the odds.

Then, one deserving winner, who will be selected by outgoing Mayor Councillor Don Lawrenson, will be presented with the trophy at the council’s annual meeting on Thursday, May 9.

Coun Lawrenson said: “I know first hand that there are many young people in Wyre who display admirable effort and dedication in a variety of ways.

“The Sheraton Trophy is an opportunity to honour their achievements.

“I want to hear about young people who are an inspiration to others, who go the extra mile or have perhaps succeeded in something they’d never done before and would encourage anyone who knows a deserving young person to contact us.”

To nominate someone for this year’s Sheraton Trophy, email details to andrea.mullin@wyre.gov.uk.

Alternatively, write to Andrea Mullin, Wyre Council, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, FY6 7PU.

The deadline for all entries to be received is 5pm on Friday, March 29.
