Town ‘one of safest in country,’ claims study

Leyland is one of the safest places in the country to live, according to new research released today.

Findings from insurance firm MoneySupermarket.com show not a single insurance claim has been made for burglary or theft on house insurance policies in the town in the past year.

The company analysed claims lodged per thousand of a place’s population between December 2010 and November last year. And not a single claim was received from the PR25 area of the town.

Coun Caleb Tomlinson, who represents Leyland Central on South Ribble Council, said: “I’m delighted Leyland is such a safe place to live.

“I’m in agreement with the insurance companies because it is a safe place to live.

“When there is burglary in Leyland, you will find there are about eight in one night and, within a week, the police have got the perpetrator and sent them back to prison, because they are repeat offenders generally in Leyland. I got burgled in summer round about 2003 and the police knew exactly who it was.”

Coun Michael McNulty, who represents Leyland St Mary’s on the council, added: “It sounds amazing, but Leyland is a wonderful place to live.

“It is as a result of a combination of all sorts of things.

“We have got a good police community in the area and we have regular PACT meetings and so on.

“The council also does what it can with crime prevention.

“It all sounds very good for Leyland.”

As well as Leyland, 16 other areas, also including Barnoldswick, in Lancashire, recorded zero claims over the 12 months.

The worst area of the country for claims was in Stoke Newington, North London, where more than 33 claims for every thousand people was made.

Areas of Bradford, Birmingham, Leeds, Doncaster, Sheffield, Lincolnshire and Hertfordshire are also included.

Hahaha I just love the irony of this story appearing on the same web page as a police warning to lock up your garages because of a spate of break ins in Leyland and Penwortham! Good christ if it's one of the safest places to live, what does that say about the rest of the country?!

It just says PART of Leyland are fine but looking back over the past 12months the rest is just as bad as major cities and towns which makes the claim Leyland is one of the safest places in the country to live, according to new research released today is utter sh1te !! One blot on the landscape does not account for the whole town.
