Workshop and dinner at hotel

A workshop and dinner for local and independent travel agents will be held at The Best Western Premier Leyland Hotel on September 15. The session will be hosted by Bright (Bringing Real Information and High Quality Training). It starts at 6pm followed by the dinner at 8.45pm.

Walking week to take place

South Ribble Council will host a walking week next week. Starting on Monday there will be a week of walks that aim to appeal to all age groups. All walks are free of charge. Call 01772 625581.

Police to meet community

Police will meet community members next week for the latest Plungington PACT meeting. The meeting will be held at Plungington Community Centre, Brook Street, Preston on Tuesday. It will start at 6pm and is a chance for people to share any views or concerns with officers.

Leisure plans are discussed

Plans to invest £2.3m into Garstang Leisure Centre will be discussed at Wyre Council’s cabinet meeting next week. The move could see the Windsor Road centre given a new swimming pool. The meeting takes place at the Civic Centre on Thursday, September 12. The meeting starts at 6pm.

Sleeves up to be a lifesaver

The National Blood Service will be holding a blood donor session at the Gujerat Hindu Centre, South Meadow Lane, Broadgate today. Call into the sports hall at the centre between 2pm and 4pm or 5pm and 7.30pm to roll up your sleeve and give blood.

Book a free safety check

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is offering free home safety checks to all residents. Officers will visit your home to install free smoke alarms and offer life saving advice. Call 0800 169 1125.

Town to host cycle event

CTC, the national cycling charity, has chosen Clitheroe to host its next event. The Sensa Bikes Witches’ Curse sportive takes place in Clitheroe on Sunday. Two distances are available, with 68 mile and 45 mile routes taking in some of the best climbs in the area. Both routes head out from Clitheroe town centre and take in the infamous climb of Nick O’Pendle and several other Pendle Hills. Entry fees are £17 for members and £27 for non-members. visit www.ctcchallengerides.co.uk.

Car parking deal plan to be discussed

Plans to make parking free for all on a town centre car park will be discussed by councillors next week. A land deal between Booths and Wyre Council is set to see free parking for all come to Windsor Road car park in Garstang. It will bring an end to a situation where part of the car park is free and part is paid for. The issue will be discussed by councillors at a cabinet meeting at the Civic Centre next Thursday.

Lower speed limit ignored

Drivers are failing to observe a new 20mph speed limit in a village, neighbours have claimed. Residents in Freckleton have claimed drivers have been seen travelling above the new limit and it has been made a priority for the area’s police. A county-wide 20mph zone roll-out is underway.
