School pyjama day for appeal
Fay Jones and Carrie Walters with their children
Schools were today urged to take part in a pyjama day to raise funds in memory of brave brain tumour victim Katy Holmes.
Mums Fay Jones and Carrie Walters, who both live in Leyland, were touched by the plight of the 10-year-old who passed away on January 19. They set about organising a Pyjama Day in Katy’s honour to raise funds for Derian House and a brain tumour cause.
Schools and nurseries are urged to take part in the event on Friday February 10 and wear their pyjamas or other suitable nightwear in exchange for a donation to the appeal.
Around 12 schools have already pledged to take part and the two mums are now urging more places to come on board so they can raise as much money as possible for the cause.
Fay, 37, who has three children Hannah, six, George, 14 and Chloe, 18, said: “What struck me about Katy’s story was that this was just a normal family whose healthy child had suddenly been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.
“It made me realise that this could happen to anyone and I wanted to do something to help.”
Carrie, 30, who has children Callum, six, Matthew, nine and Stephen, 10, said: “My grandmother died of a brain tumour when I was three-months pregnant with Stephen and I know that more and more people seem to be affected by brain tumours.”
Fay added: “We have had a lot of interest from schools and nurseries and want as many people as possible to take part.”
