Scared of heights but ready to bungee

Fear: Sarah Jane Barnes is planning to do 300ft bungee jump to raise money for the Katy Holmes Trust

A woman who is terrified of heights is preparing to take part in a 300ft bungee jump to raise money in memory of brain tumour victim Katy Holmes.

Sarah Jane Barnes, 34, of Colenso Road, Ashton, Preston, will be taking part in the 300ft bungee jump which will take place over water at Tatton Park, near Knutsford, Cheshire, on Saturday, September 15.

Sarah Jane, who is a care assistant at a residential home for elderly people with dementia, was deeply moved when she heard about the plight of 10-year-old Katy Holmes, who was suddenly diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour last October and lost her fight for life in January this year.

Sarah Jane said: “I never actually knew Katy, but I know her half-sister Kelly as she is my hairdresser.

“When I heard about Katy’s story, it really touched me as she was so young and it must have been terrible for her family when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour so suddenly.

“I wanted to do something to raise money for the charity set up in her memory to carry out research into preventing brain tumours happening in the first place.

“I am actually terrified of heights, but at the same time, I have always fancied the idea of doing a bungee jump so I thought it would be a great way of raising money for the Katy Holmes Trust.

“I am nervous and excited and it seems to be coming round very quickly. As I am 6ft 4ins tall, it is going to seem even higher to me!”

The 300ft bungee jump is the UK’s highest bunjee jump and takes place over the picturesque lake.

Sarah Jane will be raising money through sponsorship and all funds will go to the Katy Holmes Trust.
