Coun David Borrow, Armed Forces Champion for Preston City Council, Brig Nick Fitzgerald, Commander 42 (North West) Brigade, and Coun Peter Rankin, leader of Preston City Council, sign the Armed Forces and Community Covenant for Preston ceremony at the Minster Church of St John

An historic ‘military covenant’ was signed to strengthen Preston’s long-standing ties with the armed forces.

It took place yesterday afternoon at Preston Minster, Church Street.

Already proud of its strong military connections and links, the covenant will define a new way forward for Preston to assist people serving or who have served their country and to celebrate the city’s military connections.

Coun David Borrow said: “This covenant is about ensuring practical help gets to those people either serving or have served.

“It’s also about building links between the military and civilian community so people can quickly and easily access services as well as fostering a better understanding across all our communities.”
