Residents urged to report poor parkers near hospital

Residents living close to the Royal Preston Hospital are being urged to report drivers parking illegally or inconsiderately under a new scheme.

Community leaders said a drive to reduce the parking problems close to the hospital was beginning to prove a success.

Restrictions have been put in place on many streets.

And past operations have seen plain clothed police officers deployed to the area to catch rogue parkers.

Now, councillors are urging any residents who see bad parking to fill in a form on the county council’s website which will then be passed to police.

County Coun Michael Welsh, who represents Preston North East, said: “These reports will be collated and shared with the police as a basis for taking action either by the parking service where the issue involves waiting restrictions, or the police in cases of access only or obstruction.

“Given the limits of available resources there is unlikely to be an instant response but, where a clear pattern of systematic abuse appears, action will be taken. This represents a real step forward and I am most grateful to the officers concerned.”

The form is available online at www.lancashire.gov.uk/parking. There is then a link allowing problems to be reported.

rgw1: Very true. After all we can't have the kind of riff raff who use the NHS parking their unsightly vehicles all over genteel Fulwood can we?

Why give the residents any say in the matter? Most of them objected to the multi-storey car park designed to alleviate this problem so, in my opinion (for what it's worth) they brought this mess on themselves! Build the car park and sod them!
