Trainers from St John Ambulance have been working with students from Worden Sports College in Leyland, giving vital life saving skills as part of the Skills 4 Change project.
During the course, students learned about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills and other techniques to enable them to deal with life threatening situations such as choking, severe bleeding and shock.
Ruth Bond, trainer for the charity, said: “St John Ambulance teaches valuable life skills to young people by training them in first aid, empowering them to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
“We were thrilled to be part of the Skills 4 Change project and we know that first aid improves self esteem, develops confidence and fosters a sense of belonging.”
Run by Youngaddaction, the Skills 4 Change project is an early intervention initiative funded by the Department of Education aimed at raising the aspirations of 11-16 year olds.
Worden is one of the first to adopt it and by summer the project will be running in 90 English secondary schools.
