Meet the budding artist who has already received a Royal seal of approval.

Navan Pradeesh, 10, a pupil at St Clare’s Catholic Primary School in Sharoe Green Lane, Fulwood, Preston, got into the jubilee spirit by sketching a portrait of the monarch.

Pleased with the likeness he decided to send it off to Buckingham Palace to see what the royal household made of his sketch.

And he was delighted to receive a letter congratulating him on his work.

Head teacher Mark Purcell said the youngster was a ‘star in the making’.

He said: “He sent it to the Queen and received a letter back from one of her ladies in waiting thanking him and telling him about the Jubilee.”

Asked whether Navan had the potential to be a star artist, he replied: “I think so, it is a stunning picture with lots of features.

“But the thing to look at is the eyes. My wife used to be an art teacher and she said to be able to draw eyes like that is a real talent.

“He does all the shades and the crown and each individual stones.”

His mum Aji Pillai and dad Pradeesh Komalan have now entered the portrait in the Good Schools Guide’s Children’s Queen Portrait Competition For Schools.

Aji Marsett Place, Ribbleton, Preston, said a flair for the arts runs in the family.

She: “He is a very talented artist.

“His dad is an artist too and a musician, lyricist and composer.

“He has recently done a song for an Indian documentary and he was an actor in India before coming here.

“I work as a staff nurse at the Royal Preston Hospital and am a classical dancer, so he is a good dancer too.

“I think one day he will be a professional artist.”

If Navan wins the competition he will get £100, while the school will receive £1,000.
