Treat: Paula Holmes at her Mothers Day meal at The Fleece in Penwortham

The mother of tragic brain tumour victim Katy Holmes was treated to a special Mother’s Day lunch courtesy of a Penwortham pub.

Paula Holmes was put forward for the treat by the Lancashire Evening Post after being contacted by The Fleece in Penwortham, near Preston.

The family were unable to take up the offer on Mother’s Day earlier this month but they finally sat down together for a meal and afternoon out on Sunday.

Parents Paula and Dave and daughter Charley were looked after on the day by the pub’s landlady Judy Evans and partner Chris Lee

Paula said: “We had a lovely time and were treated like royalty.

“We were chauffeur driven there and home again by Chris and on arrival we were presented with champagne and flowers

“Judy and her staff waited on us hand and foot and were so very warm and welcoming.

“The whole afternoon was simply wonderful.

“It was of course bittersweet and we remembered Katy while we were there and talked about her a lot.

“We would like to thanks Judy, Chris, the staff and the LEP for nominating us for this lovely surprise.

“It was such a wonderful act of kindness that certainly went a very long way and will remain in our hearts.”

Penwortham Motors donated a Mercedes-Benz car for the family to be driven to the pub in

Judy said: “I just thought it would be a lovely thing to do for them and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

“The Fleece is a massive part of the community in Penwortham.”
