Almost 40 pharmacies across central Lancashire have signed up to take on a more active role in improving the health and wellbeing of their community.

To qualify as health champions, each candidate undertook three days of formal training by eMpowerMe, a local organisation which specialises in training health champions.

Training covered areas such as health and wellbeing, behavioural change and the importance of early intervention.

So far, 39 pharmacy professionals have been trained up to be effective health promoters who can to help reduce health inequalities by providing healthy lifestyle help and advice.

Stephen Gough, NHS Central Lancashire’s community pharmacy advisor, said: “I am delighted in the number of pharmacies who have put staff forward to be trained.”

Any interested pharmacies should call 01772 644400.
