Onesie day raises £2,000

A ONESIE day to raise funds for Preston’s Space Centre has raised almost £2,000 - and money is still coming in.

Scores of businesses, schools, colleges and other organisations swapped their usual clothes for onesies or pyjamas in December to raise money for the Centre in Pedders Lane, Ashton.

And, Preston’s Guild Mayor, Coun Carl Crompton also took part.

Wear Your Onesie Day took place on December 18 and was one of several initiatives organised to encourage donations and raise awareness of the plight of the Space Centre.

Hilary Holden, fundraising co-ordinator for Space said: “We weren’t expecting anything [like this].

“The other thing is people are ringing up and saying ‘are we making it an annual event’ because it has been so good.”

Hilary added: “The response we are getting is immense.”

The Space Centre in Ashton, Preston, provides unique care and respite for adults and children with all types of disability.

A funding shortfall has suspended its expansion plans and threatened the centre’s future altogether.

Closure could leave thousands of disabled people, their carers and families without a crucial leisure and learning resource.
