coun June Ashworth will be the next Mayor of the city of
Lancaster.

Councillors selected her as Mayor-elect at a meeting of the full council this month.

She is due to take over from the present Mayor, Coun Sheila
Denwood, in May next year.

Coun Ashworth was proposed for the position by her Morecambe Bay independent colleague Coun Shirley Burns, who said that Coun Ashworth was dedicated to the area and would be an excellent first citizen.

Coun Ron Sands seconded the nomination.

He said Coun Ashworth had provided exemplary service to her ward and had played an important role in tourism, especially supporting events in the area.

Coun Ashworth, who is a councillor for the Bare area, thanked councillors for their nominations for her.
