‘Mixed feelings’ over county’s 20mph limits
opinions: Tim Ashton
Lancashire’s highways chiefs today admitted not everyone has taken to the county’s new 20mph areas.
The county council is introducing the lower limit across every residential road in the county between now and 2014.
And many streets already have the new ‘signs only’ limits.
But County Coun Tim Ashton, cabinet member for highways, admits there has been a mixed reaction.
And the county council has extended the consultation period for future areas.
He said: “I have had quite a lot of feedback.
“Some people are a bit upset that their roads are being classed as residential streets when they feel they are major roads.
“We are going to look at that.
“We have extended our consultation period from four to six weeks. We know it is not going to work overnight but we are committed to reducing the number of young people seriously injured and killed on our roads.”
