The family of battling Logan North are hoping tests will reveal he is well enough to carry on with a trial cancer treatment which could save his life.

Logan, five, of Collins Road, Bamber Bridge, near Preston, has Stage IV neuroblastoma and became one of the first youngsters in the country to be accepted on a trial cancer treatment programme at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital.

However, the treatment had to be halted after Logan became seriously ill with a life threatening virus.

His mum Amanda says that Logan has neutropenia, which means he has no immune system and he is having daily tests to find out when his immune system picks back up again so he can go back on the trial.

Amanda said: “Logan has been having blood tests every day and when his immune system is back up again, he will be able to go back on the trial.

“We are hoping that his test today will show that he is ready to go back on the trial next week.

“If Logan does go back on the trial next week, he will have a week of injections followed by 10 days of injections and infusions.

“We just want Logan to be able to go back on the trial so he can have the treatment he needs.

“The sooner he re-starts his treatment, the sooner it will end. Any delays are just prolonging the treatment and how long Logan needs to be in hospital.”

Amanda suffers from the immune condition lupus which has led to brittle bone disease.

She is waiting for Logan to complete his hospital treatment so she can go into hospital to have treatment to have her hip and knee treated after they became infected following a fall.

Amanda and husband Ian have a 12-year-old son Max who is autistic and an eight-year-old daughter Amy who has Down’s Syndrome so have a lot to cope with on top of Logan’s illness.

They launched a £250,000 campaign to send Logan to the US for treatment, but was scrapped after Logan missed his time slot.
