Kids pen poetry about PNE

Young football fans have showed their love for the game by penning poems at Preston North End.
Scores of budding writers put pen to paper to write about their team. Entrants wrote about going to the game, the atmosphere and even the club’s mascot, the Deepdale Duck.
The competition was launched by Tony Noon and was judged by writing group The Word in conjunction with Preston North End South Ribble Supporters Group.
Tony said: “The response has been fantastic, more than we could hope for at our first attempt. I want to thank everyone who entered our encouraged a child to enter, especially the local libraries for their help.
“As this has been so successful we are going to look at doing something every year, but we will look at rotating between poetry, short story, and art to help encourage as many children as possible.
“This competition pulled together many local resources, including the football club, the schools, a local business, and local writers. We’ve got some great people in our area who have given their time and energy for our children, so look out for our competition next season.”
There were three age categories for the competition: five to seven-years-old, eight to 11-years-old and 12 to 15-years-old. The winner of each age group had their winning entry published in the North End match day programme at the game against Bournemouth and they were given a football signed by members of the squad.
There were also runners up prizes. And a £15 book token was awarded by The Life Channel for the most humorous entry. Georgia Billington, seven, from Fulwood was the winner of the five to seven age category.
The Sherwood Primary School pupil said she was “happy” to win. She added: “I like it when they score and I like going screaming and shouting.”
Her dad, John, said: “We sat down and talked about it, she had been doing poetry at school so planned the story she wanted to write. She really enjoys her writing and she is a season ticket holder at North End. We had a cracking day.”

We park the car and rush to the ground
Everyone chanting a football sound
Rain or snow we always go
We know PNE will put on a show
The teams run out we give a cheer
I think the boys behind have been drinking beer
They shoot they pass we score a goal
I jump up and drop my sausage roll
Deepdale Duck is going mad
The poor away fans (Blackpool) are looking sad
We win the match , me and Dad are getting trembley
One more game and were at Wembley

When Preston Score it makes me want to roar
When they take their shot it makes me shake a lot
I wonder if it will go in or not!
I usually celebrate quite a lot
Well who wouldn’t with that shot!
I jump around and do a jig, it’s almost like I am playing tig
The final whistle blows, not as loud as the crowd I suppose!
Time to go home by the Tom Finney Stand gate
I’m going to the next match, I won’t be late.
