Brain tumour victim Katy Holmes will have her name live on forever as revolutionary research will be carried out in her honour on the cancer that killed her.

Katy Holmes, 10, of Margaret Road, Penwortham, near Preston, died in January this year just months after suddenly being diagnosed with a highly aggressive and inoperable brain tumour.

Her parents Paula and David launched the Katy Holmes Trust in their daughter’s honour and the charity has already raised £90,000 in addition to £10,000 that was raised in Katy’s name for Derian House Children’s Hospice where she lost her fight for life.

Now Katy’s family have decided which brain tumour research project the Katy Holmes Trust will be raising money for and are hopeful it might one day lead to a cure to prevent other families going through the same heartache.

The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham is carrying out research into the same brain tumour that Katy died from and have made new discoveries.

The centre now needs £185,000 for a three year research fellowship which they will name after Katy. Paula, who also has daughters Charley, nine and baby Scarlet, said: “When we lost Katy all we wanted to do was catch her killer. Well now it is within our grasp. We once thought the cure would never be discovered in our lifetime but now we are filled with hope. When Katy was fighting for her life, it was our instincts that alerted us to many things.

“Our instincts are now telling us that this research is right for the Katy Holmes Trust to raise money for. Katy will be looking down upon us with tears in her eyes knowing that we found it.”
