Katy’s Christmas party

Poignant memories: Katy Holmes at the party at Barton Grange last year with her parents

A Christmas party will be held in honour of brain tumour victim Katy Holmes to raise funds for the charity launched in her name.

Katy’s Christmas Party will be held at the Barton Grange Hotel in Preston on Friday November 23 - exactly one year on from when the youngster celebrated an early Christmas there with her family and friends after doctors feared she would not make it until Christmas.

However, Katy, of Margaret Road, Penwortham, near Preston, battled on, but lost her fight against the inoperable brain tumour in January this year.

The event proved so popular, it sold out almost as soon as tickets went on sale, but a table of 10 has now become available so people are urged to snap up the few remaining tickets.

Katy’s mum Paula Holmes, who is married to David and also has daughters Charley, eight and nine-month-old baby Scarlet, says the event will be all about fun as that is what Katy would have wanted.

Paula said: “After Katy was diagnosed with the brain tumour, she became very poorly over a short space of time and on Halloween last year, doctors warned us that they didn’t think she would make it and told us to say our goodbyes.

“As as result, we brought Christmas forward for Katy and had a Winter Wonderland party at Barton Grange which was attended by 300 of her family and friends.

“Katy arrived by sleigh pulled by reindeer and had a wonderful time.

“We decided to hold a Christmas party at Barton Grange to raise funds for the Katy Holmes Trust and by a total coincidence, the only date we managed to get through a cancellation was exactly a year from the party last year.”

The event will feature a three-course meal, a raffle, auction and DJ Rob Falcon.

Katy’s family say the focus of the night will be to ensure everyone has as much fun as possible and they want it to be a happy occasion.

Paula said: “Katy did not like things to be too formal and serious and just loved to have fun, so we have a few surprises up our sleeve to make sure we inject as much fun as we can into this event.

“It will very much be Katy’s Christmas party and the staff at Barton Grange have been wonderful in helping us make sure that everything including the decor is done with Katy in mind.

“It will be an emotional night for us, but we want it to be a fun event.”

Tickets for the party are £45 each or £400 for a table of 10. Call: 01772 490718.
