A popular former DJ who ‘lived life to the full’ after undergoing a heart transplant has died.

Jodie Finch, who went to Runshaw College in Leyland and Parklands High School in Chorley, underwent a heart transplant after a simple flu virus developed into a rare and life-threatening heart condition when he was 21.

He died on Friday while in hospital, where it is understood he was waiting for a further transplant.

Tributes have poured in for Mr Finch who formerly lived on Mendip Road, Leyland, and was in his early 30s.

His close friend Clee Beevers, 33, said: “He was really into DJ-ing and he had mixing decks. I started getting into music and that’s how we started getting friendly.”

Mr Beevers set up dance night Funktion and the pair would regularly DJ at nightspots across Preston, Chorley and beyond, including Revolution in Preston, University of Central Lancashire events and Insomnia in Blackpool.

Mr Beevers said: “He always had so many different friends.

“He was so funny and so much fun to be around. He really made an impression, everyone wanted to be friends with him and be around him.

“He played all over, DJ-ing with some really big names. He was talented and respected with what he could do musically.”

Several years ago, Mr Finch moved to Warrington where he lived with his partner and worked as a director at MOT testing centre, Black Diamond.

When he was 20, he contracted cardimyopathy, a rare form of heart disease which causes the heart to become enlarged, reduces the force of heart contractions and decreases the circulation of blood through the lungs.

When a match was found, he underwent surgery.

Mr Beevers, of Clayton-le-Woods, added: “He just took it all in his stride.”

One tribute on social networking site Facebook said: “I’ll always remember Jodie for his larger than life personality. What a true tragedy.”
