Gift of place at top school
A COUPLE who emigrated to Australia are funding a bursary at a top Ribble Valley school.
The pair, Paul and Susan Howarth who used to run a business in Blackburn, have set up a scheme which will part-fund a free place at Stonyhurst College, near Longridge.
Ryder Systems Stonyhurst Award will provide nondenominational aid for a pupil, with 50% coming from the fund and the rest being met by the Jesuit college.
Stonyhurst headmaster Andrew Johnson said the donation would enable the school to help its bid to increase access to a Stonyhurst education.
The school, set on the outskirts of Hurst Green, currently has a preparatory school as well as a coeducational day and boarding school with sixth form.
The couple moved to Melbourne in 2004 .
