Final tributes are paid to ‘perfect young man’
Family and friends donned Preston North End shirts as they said a final farewell to a sports-mad teenager at his funeral.
Jordan Grant, 17, died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest near his home in Dunnock Lane, Cottam, Preston, on Saturday February 4.
Hundreds of Jordan’s friends, loved ones and school pals and teachers packed out Our Lady and St Edward’s Church in Fulwood yesterday for a requiem mass in celebration of his life.
Despite placing extra chairs in the aisles at the end of the pews, the church was so packed that some people had to stand.
Dozens wore North End shirts and scarves with Jordan’s name on them and ‘18’, his favourite number, including young pallbearers who carried his coffin, draped in a PNE flag and with a blue and white wreath on top.

The Cardinal Newman College student was a huge fan of the Lilywhites and had dreamed of being a sports journalist.
Fr Jim Clarke, the chaplain at Newman, told how Jordan was a much-loved son of Lisa and John and beloved big brother to Lewis, 11, and Imogen, five.
He said: “Jordan loved people and he loved life.
“He loved Lewis and Imogen, even when Imogen stole his phone and Lewis used to beat him at wrestling.
“There were over 1,000 messages for him on Facebook following his death.
“Jordan always tried to do his best to run the race until the finish and he did his best for others.
“He had a list of commendations from his teachers as long as his arm and he was hard-working and modest.
“I had the privilege to teach him RE and he was a model student.

“Lisa and John say he was a perfect young man - modest, loyal, dependable, trustworthy, reliable, friendly, loving and caring. That’s some CV.”
Many broke down in tears as brother Lewis and mum Lisa - who wore a PNE shirt with ‘My Angel’ on the back - bravely read out poems they had written for Jordan before the one-hour mass drew to a close.
A note from Jordan’s family on the order of service said: “Words cannot express the feeling in our hearts.
“Thank-you for being with us during this difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers and words of sympathy will always be remembered.”
The mass was followed by a committal at Preston Crematorium.
Later, Preston fans paid their own tribute during last night’s home game with Hartlepool.
Fans applauded while photos of Jordan’s happiest times were shown on the scoreboard before kick-off.
And, in the 17th minute, family and friends got to their feet for a minute-long applause, quickly followed by the rest of the crowd, including away fans.
