It’s Chicken Run: The Sequel.

Almost a year ago, police were called to try and tackle an anti-social menace with a difference.

A brood of chickens had been dumped on Aveling Drive in Banks, near Tarleton, and made their home there.

Before long, they had multiplied and were running amok, crowing early in the morning and making people’s lives hell.

But when officers tried to catch the chickens and cockerels last March, they were unable to get their hands on a small number of them.

And now, flocks of the boisterous birds are back, with around 30 living on the street again.

Peacocks have also been spotted and, because some residents are feeding the birds, it has attracted rats and foxes too.

Mum Denise Whiteside, 39, who has lived in the street for 13 years, said: “A lot of people are disgruntled.

“There are about 20 at the moment and they are just breeding.

“They crow at about 2.30 in the morning. It is a nuisance.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It is mainly the noise from the cockerels but you get all the chicken mess as well and people throwing food down. You can hear that it has got worse. The cockerels just breed and breed.

“It is not that bad in winter but in summer they start making noise at three in the morning and it is constant.”

Mark Thomas, Lancashire Police’s wildlife officer, said, although it is not a police issue, he will return to the estate but wants the help of the local council.

He said: “Some of the residents are feeding them and that has created a health and safety issue.”

A spokesman for West Lancashire Council said: “The Council is currently liaising with the police wildlife officer and is in the process of organising a joint operation that will capture and relocate the chickens to a more suitable home.

If you don't like the sounds of the countryside move to the city.Never mind you'll soon have the melodious sounds of the shale gas fracking to drown out the crowing of the cockerels.I know which I prefer..........
