Clowning around for Red Nose Day
School children, businesses and community groups across the county are set to enjoy a bumper day of fun today to raise cash for Comic Relief.
There’s set to be scores of youngster donning red noses as part of the big day and offices will be full of people keen to support the cause.
Youngsters at The Nursery Leyland will be taking part in a host of activities.
The children will be washing cars and baking cakes at the children’s centre in Wade Hall, Royal Avenue, Leyland.
And a staff member at the venue will be spending the day in a bath of custard.
Staff at Sainsbury’s in Longridge are also backing the cause.
There will be waxing for the men, courtesy of The Green Room Longridge.
And shoppers can enjoy the Malteasers chopstick challenge.
At The Shop barbers in Church Street, Preston, staff will be dressing up as clowns when they are cutting hair and all proceeds from the day will go to Comic Relief.
There will also be tea parties, sponsored walks and discos taking place at some of central Lancashire’s nurseries.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, which has raised over £600m and helped to change lives both in the UK and Africa.
It launched on Christmas Day in 1985, live on BBC One.
At that time, a devastating famine was crippling Ethiopia and something had to be done.
The idea was simple – Comic Relief would make the public laugh while they raised money to help people in desperate need.
Before too long, Red Nose Day was created and the first ever event in 1988 raised a staggering £15m
