Cash for centre
Donation: SPACE Centre Fundraising Co-ordinator Hilary Holden collects the donation from Janet Clarke of United Utilities and Tom Horton, Richard Watts and Angela King of KMI
The contractors behind major United Utilities works in Preston have handed over £500 to the Space Centre.
KMI who is carrying out work in the city was awarded the cash for achieving 100,000 hours without a RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
The firm is working on the United Utilities Walton-Le-Dale Waste Water Treatment Works Extension Scheme and after hearing the plight of the Space Centre decided to hand the money over to them.
For almost 20 years the Space Centre in Pedders Lane, Ashton, has been providing vital services for severely disabled people across Lancashire and beyond.
But a funding shortfall has suspended its expansion plans and threatened the centre’s future altogether.
Senior Site Manager Richard Watts said: “This is clearly a double celebration.
“The health and safety of our site team and anybody else we can positively influence is our number one priority.
“I am delighted that not only have we achieved this milestone in safety, but we have also had the opportunity to help such an important and worthwhile charity.”
Fundraising coordinator Hilary Holden said: “I am delighred that they chose us to give their safety award to, every penny counts very much to us.”
