stroll: Walkers in Garstang Walking Festival

A new group is to be set up to ensure a popular annual event carries on.

Wyre Council wants to set up a Friends of Garstang Walking Festival group to steer the development of the event.

Since it started eight years ago, the annual festival, which runs during the second week of May, has enjoyed continuing success.

Each year has seen an increase in the number of events and an increase in attendances.

In 2011 there were 60 events which celebrated springtime in and around Garstang.

They included long distance walks and heritage, bird and wildlife themed walks.

Now, to enable the festival to move forward, it has been decided to form the group.

An inaugural meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 6.30pm at the Marriage Room in the Old Council Offices, in Garstang.

They are located at High Street, in the town.

All are welcome to attend the meeting. For further information, contact Wyre Council’s Countryside Ranger Service on 07989 579351.
