Gwendoline celbrates 100th birthday

A former Post Office worker is Preston's newest centenarian. Born in Birmingham on May 13 1909, Gwendoline Butler moved to Preston 10 years ago to be nearer her daughter, Beatrix, and granddaughter, Linda.

Surprise birthday visit for Preston Gran

A Fulwood gran marked her 100th birthday with two special visitors. Alice Astin, who lives at Forest Brook House sheltered housing scheme, received a surprise visit from her grandson (inset), who lives in Australia. The keen animal lover also enjoyed feeding a lamb, brought in by Gordon McAteer, senior estate officer at Eaves Brook, where Mrs Astin has lived for 17 years.

100th birthday celebration for May

May Prest, who lives in Ashton, was 100 years old on May 1, and she celebrated all day long.

She received her birthday card from the Queen in the morning and after unwrapping presents she enjoyed a variety of cream cakes during afternoon tea with her family at Pickerings Hotel, in Catterall near Garstang.

A party for 50 friends and family was held at The Claremont Hotel in Ashton, Preston, in the evening, with the birthday girl celebrating until midnight!

Family came from as far away as Australia to help celebrate. The photograph includes her two daughters and their partners, four grandchildren and her 10-month-old great grandson.

Andrew David Fleming marries Helen Louise Kirkham

Andrew David Fleming, from Formby, Merseyside, married Helen Louise Kirkham from Bury, Lancashire, at Bartle Hall Country Hotel, near Preston on April 3. The couple, who live in Penwortham, honeymooned in Australia.

Paul Schofield marries Claire Miller

Claire Miller married Paul Schofield at Leyland Methodist Church, followed by a reception at Farington Lodge Hotel, Farington.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Paris.

Mr MD Bowe marries Miss C Hawksworth

The wedding of Mr MD Bowe, formerly of Windermere and Preston, and Miss C Hawksworth, formerly of Cheadle in Cheshire, took place on April 8 in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, USA.

The groom is a graduate of the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and is a quantity surveyor and senior costs manager for Nissan in Tennessee. The bride is a radiographer.

They will make their home in Nashville.
