Ramon and Sylvia Laing

A Preston couple, Ramon and Sylvia Laing, are preparing for a tropical trip of a lifetime as a reward for high retail sales at home shopping giant Kleeneze.

The firm is treating the pair to a luxury five-star cruise that will stop off at some of the most exclusive destinations in the Caribbean.

Their first port of call will be the shores of Antigua.

Chorley Pals

Lindsay Hoyle MP took time to view progress being made with the Chorley Pals statue.

The Pals left the town 95 years ago to join the armed forces during the First World War.

Mr Hoyle, middle, is pictured with trustees of the Chorley Pals Memorial Trust and the sculptor, Peter Hodgkinson, right.

The MP was delighted with the progress being made with the statue.

The 7ft sculpture representing a First World War soldier will be mounted on top of an 8ft plinth.

Engraved on it will be the names of all 230 men from the town and local villages who served in the Chorley Company and went over the top at the Somme on July 1, 1916.

St Clare's Brownies

St Clare's Brownies in Fulwood, Preston, dressed in hula skirts and served a Caribbean meal to raise money for creating an internet cafe. The cafe will be for girl guides in the Caribbean. Janet Renwick, the 2nd Fulwood St Clare's Brownie leader, said: "They worked really hard to make the 'Island Cafe' such a success."

Hannah Frank

A Lancaster woman accepted a posthumous award made to her artist aunt, Hannah Frank, who died late last year at the age of 100.

Glasgow City Council honoured Hannah Frank with a Lord Provost's Award for her special contribution to the visual arts through drawing and sculpture.
