Look out: Bill Oddie shows a youngster how to spot wildlife

Television nature expert Bill Oddie brought his binoculars to a Lancashire park to help youngsters hunt for wildlife.

The BBC Springwatch presenter paid a visit to Cuerden Park in Bamber Bridge to launch the Lancashire BioBlitz scheme.

Young visitors were shown how to record as many species of plants and creatures as they could spot in the park, in two events over the weekend.

There was also a number of guided walks and talks and other activities to entertain families.

BioBlitz coordinator Alan Wright, of Lancashire Wildlife Trust, said he was thrilled to have Bill on board to help launch the scheme.

He said: “We wanted someone with links to the county and wildlife and when Bill stepped in to help we were thrilled.

“He is such a high profile figure in the birding community and such a well-known TV personality with his work with Springwatch.

“We already have more than a million records on our database but obviously we need this to be a constantly expanding resource for people in the county.

“Our aim was to encourage people, especially young people, to record wildlife and tell us about it.”
